Learn the basics of all those nice attacking strategies! Here I sum up some popular armies and teach you how to use them well.

Types of attack

There are generally 3 types of attacks in the game. Farming, Trophy pushing/clan war and Hybrid. Each has different styles and choices of troops.

Farming

No, farming in clash doesn't have anything to do with hoes! "Farming" is a coc term that describes a player that attacks to steal resources and doesn't care about losing trophies at all. Farmers uses (mostly) cheap army to reduce the cost of attacking and place their town halls outside to attract people to give him a free shield.

Trophy pushing/clan wars

These attacks are delicate at getting as many stars as possible and doesn't really minds even if the cost of the attack is high. Expensive but powerful troops are used such as Golems and PEKKAs. These attacks involves more strategy and brutal force!

Hybrid

Basically some of both of the above strategies, you try to get trophy and resources, and therefore is really difficult. Troops with medium cost, such as giants and wizards, are used.

Army suggestions

Here are some popular army suggestions! The below armies are provided the following info:

  1. Type: Farming, Trophy or Hybrid
  2. Town hall: suitable level to use this army
  3. Attacking tips: generally how to use
  4. Cost: cost compared to other armies (1-10 stars)
  5. Expected outcome: most probable results of the raid (☆☆☆-★★★)
  6. Target: what kind of base you're looking for when using this army
  7. Banes: things that can destroy that army

Barbarian rush

The most simple yet quite effective army, the army only consumes one kind of troops, and the attack part is simple-- just spam all barbs in groups and they'll take care of the rest. However, splash defrnses are the bane of barbarians so mortars could be a serious issue and wizard towers simply vaporizes them. That's why no one would use barbarian rush after th4...

  1. Type: Hybrid
  2. Town hall: 1-4
  3. Attacking tips: Just place hordes of barbarians and their high hp/dmg will outrun those point defenses.
  4. Cost:★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆(very low)
  5. Expected outcome:★☆☆-★★☆
  6. Target:Loot unprotected by walls; exposed mortars/wizard towers
  7. Banes:Splash damage; walls

Barch

"barch" army (barbarians and archers) is always a favourite army for most players at all levels. The mechanics are simple: barbarians should be sent first and the archers, protected by the barbarians, can snipe down buildings. The ratio of the troops is up to you, as long as you feel comfortable with it.

  1. Type:Farming
  2. Town hall: 2-11
  3. Attacking tips: Send in barbarians in a line/arc and send archers behind. Try to cover as many loot-filled buildings within the line of troops.
  4. Cost:★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆(very low)
  5. Expected outcome:★☆☆
  6. Targets: Filled Collectors (inactive bases)
  7. Banes: Splash damage

Giants(+barbarians)+archers

Adapted from barch, this is a slightly more costly army but its much more effective. 5-20 giants should be used (according to th level) or else they won't do much at all. This army is one of my favourite!

  1. Type: Hybrid
  2. Town hall: 3-11
  3. Attacking tips: Place giants to destroy/distract mortars andd wizard towers that threatens. Then drop your barch as you would normally do.
  4. Cost:★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆(ok)
  5. Expected outcome:★★☆-★★★
  6. Targets:clustered storages; filled collectors; bad wall separations
  7. Banes:Well defended mortars

Giants+goblins

This army consists of defense targeting giants and resource targeting goblins. Both will skip every buildings except those that threatens and those that store loot!

  1. Type: Farming
  2. Town hall: 3-7
  3. Attacking tips: Place giants to go after defenses (specifically mortars). Place goblins in GROUPS after the mortar is down. Do not place all goblins at once because they might die together easily!
  4. Cost:★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆(ok)
  5. Expected outcome:☆☆☆-★☆☆
  6. Targets:very clustered storages; filled collectors
  7. Banes:splash damage; walls

Giant-healer

Once healer is unlocked, many will make use of them and use this epic low th level trophy attack! Just remember to bring some archers too! Giants won't attack anything but defenses. Also I don't recommend using this against th9s, because th9 has 2 x-bows, 4th air defense and 2nd air sweeper.

  1. Type: Trophy
  2. Town hall: 6-8
  3. Attacking tips: not much. Just drop giants+healers on the, preferably, opposite side of the air sweeper (if have). Back up with ranged troops.
  4. Cost: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆(moderate)
  5. Expected outcome: ★★☆-★★★
  6. Targets: Exposed air defenses and/or heroes, bases with little wall separations.
  7. Banes: Well protected air defense and/or heroes (especially archer queen), Clan castle troops, concentrated point defenses

BAM/BAG

"BAM" stands for barbarian+archer+minion and "BAG" stands for barbarian+archer+goblin. I grouped them both together because they're both slight adaptions of barch, and are similarly effective. Minions can ignore cannons/mortars while goblins can damage resources buildings more.

  1. Type: Farming
  2. Town hall: (BAM)7-10/(BAG)3-10
  3. Attacking tips: Not much to say, just simple as barch although additionally your barbarians should shield for the goblins/minions too.
  4. Cost:★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆(ok)
  5. Expected outcome:★☆☆
  6. Targets: filled collectors
  7. Banes: splash damage

Dragon raid/ Dragonloon

This is yet the most powerful army for mid-th level war attacks. Despite it's cost in elixir, it is so powerful that can usually 3-star bases when used well. This army also doesn't cost a drop of dark elixir, which is a rare sight for a successful army in higher th levels. Balloons works well with this army too, as they can be used to destroy air defenses while getting coverage from the dragons.

I will make a delicate guide about this popular army in the near future. :)

  1. Type: Trophy
  2. Town hall: 7-8
  3. Attacking tips: Lightning spells are mostly used, you can use 3 lightning to take out an air defense then attack from the side closest to the rest of the air defenses. If you decided to use rage spell then just rage over air defenses. Clan castle troops should be purposely ignored as nothing can literally stop a dragon attack and the troops can lure dragons inside. If you can get some maxed balloon from your clanmates, drop them behid dragons to destroy defenses quicker.
  4. Cost:★★★★★★★★★★(Outrageous)
  5. Expected outcome:(th7)★★★/(th8)★★☆-★★★
  6. Targets: any th8 or below, preferably with exposed air defense(s).
  7. Banes: th9s

Hog riders

Did anyone said HOG RYYYDAARZ? Yep, the yet most dangerous army in the top levels hog attacks could be really dangerous, while not as expensive as mass dragons. However, giant bombs could cause a big disaster.

  1. Type: Trohpy
  2. Town hall: 7-9
  3. Attacking tips: Remember the following things... First, Look out for possible giant bomb spots, especially 4x2 spots where two gbs can lurk, because gbs deal 1.5x damage to hogs, and two lv1 gbs are sufficient to kill max level hogs. Second, Don't drop all hogs in one big pack, drop in 2 or more groups to avoid all hogs die by a single gb. Third, only bring healing spells and heal hogs immediately after they're wounded by gbs. Fourth, Watch out for heroes, cc troops and skeleton traps.
  4. Cost:★★★★★★★☆☆☆(quite a lot)
  5. Expected outcome:(★☆☆/)★★★
  6. Targets: Easily spottable or even triggerable giant bombs, closely packed defenses
  7. Banes: (Double) giant bombs, defending units

Unusual armies

Wait what? These armies are unacceptable by their look but are actually usable!

Queen walk/Super Queen

Hence the name, this army relies on your archer queen. You would like to bring 9 healers, some wall breakers and a high level archer queen. Basically the queen won't die if she's high level enough, and the healers are kind of immune to air defenses because the archer queen's range plus the healer's heal range almost eliminates the possibility of your healers being killed. This strategy is mainly dark elixir farming but can also farm other resources.

  1. Type: Farming
  2. Town hall: 9-10
  3. Attacking tips: Only use this trategy with at least lv20 queen.- Drop queen and healers at once. Beware of extremely concentrated defenses and you'll be fine. Just note where should you attack from-- remember you would like your queen to go inside!
  4. Cost:★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆(ok)
  5. Expected outcome:☆☆☆-★☆☆
  6. Targets:easy-to-get storages
  7. Banes:Well defended/isolated storages; concentrated defenses

Worst armies...

You will regret using the below armies... this part is just for a laugh.

  • Wall breaker only
  • Minion rush (the game itself isn't too bad, but this army sucks)
  • all giants
  • all goblins
