Summary

  • Firecrackers are the Builder Base version of Air Defense that are unlocked at Builder Hall level 3. Like the Air Defense, they attack flying units; however, they are slightly less powerful while also being slightly smaller, covering a 2×2 space.
  • Firecrackers can only target and shoot one air troop at a time. However, it attacks 3 times every time it fires.
  • They cannot harm ground-based units, or interfere with them in any way other than potentially distracting them from attacking a more valuable target (e.g., the Builder Hall).

Strategies

Defensive Strategy

  • Firecrackers have an excellent range and a high amount of damage per shot. It is best to maximize the area they cover because of their versatility.
  • Firecrackers have low hitpoints, so protect it well, as it can get taken out easily. Covering them with a ground-only defense such as a Cannon can make up for its inability to target ground, but non-defensive buildings with high hitpoints (such as resource storages) are also useful for this purpose.
  • Their compactness (taking up only a 2×2 space) allows one to place multiple Firecrackers to do concentrated anti-air damage, similarly to Tesla farms in the Home Village. This can prove to be useful to quickly defeat swarms of Baby Dragons and/or Beta Minions.
  • Its moderate damage but high range makes it good to pair with Air Bombs. The Air Bombs do high, area damage in a small range, while the Firecrackers snipe away at long range.
  • At Builder Hall level 3, Firecrackers are an essential defense against Beta Minions, as the Archer Tower and Hidden Tesla can both be distracted by ground units.
  • Firecrackers can be a first-target for armies containing a mixture of air and ground troops. In this case it is important to ensure Firecrackers can be defended by Ground only targeting defenses, to compensate for their inability to target ground troops. This can help prevent remaining air troops from clearing the rest of the base.
  • Placing most, or all, of your firecrackers on either of the stages can help maximize their damage if they are all placed within range of each other.

Offensive Strategy

  • Firecrackers are a natural target to attack first, as clearing them helps pave the way for an air assault. Baby Dragons, Drop Ships and Hog Gliders are vulnerable to Firecrackers, so destroying these defenses where possible using high damage and high hitpoint units such as the Boxer Giant, Power P.E.K.K.A or Battle Machine first is recommended.
  • The Electrofire Wizard's Electric mode or the Cannon Cart in Mortar mode can be used to snipe Firecrackers where air troops would usually be targeted due the large range of Firecrackers.
  • Try to avoid using the Bomb Rush ability of the Battle Copter, as it will result in the Battle Copter being pulled into range of Firecrackers.

Upgrade Differences

  • The Firecrackers undergo through significant changes through levels 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8.
    • At level 1, the Firecrackers appears to be a wooden box with ropes with fireworks pointing out.
    • At level 2, the box is reinforced with steel on all the edges. A firework on the right side is relocated to the bottom.
    • At level 3, the box is moved on top of a base composed of five wooden planks resting on four stone blocks. The firework relocated in level 2 is moved back to its original place.
    • At level 4, the four stone blocks in the corners are replaced by a solid stone base reinforced with steel.
    • At level 5, the box and the planks are replaced by a square "fence" of wooden planks embedded into the base. A firework is moved slightly.
    • At level 6, additional steel reinforcements appear on the corner edges as well as the top of the wooden planks.
    • At level 7, it develops a small stone platform on the bottom which wraps around the box.
    • At level 8, gold plating is added to all four corners and the fireworks develop a black and yellow striped pattern.
    • At level 9, the gold plating is bigger, and it gains additional steel bars on each side.
    • At level 10, the steel bars are replaced with metal and gold plating. The fireworks are replaced by four larger ones.
